I went to an excellent Honiton Business Network meeting this morning (Friday 31st July) at Club 102.
Thea Watts of Cash Access UK told us about the work already in progress to bring a Banking Hub to Honiton before Lloyds Bank closes.
This is great news. Although it was announced back in February that Honiton will be getting a Banking Hub, it was good to hear about the work being done to make it happen.
It is so disappointing that the Conservative candidate in this election is scaremongering about Honiton losing banking services and suggesting that we need to campaign for a Banking Hub.
Surely local Conservatives should be aware that Honiton’s Banking Hub has already been announced by Cash Access UK and other sources such as BBC News and East Devon News.
I’m a bit cross that he has been causing people to worry they won’t be able to draw cash or bank cheques in Honiton!
The Cash Access UK team are searching for a suitable property for a permanent Banking Hub for Honiton, which they expect to be one of their busiest banking hubs in the South West. It will have an ATM, so we will be able to withdraw cash at times when when the Banking Hub is closed.
The permanent hub has to be on the ground floor, about 1,000 square feet in size, accessible and central.
Because the permanent hub might not be ready before Lloyds closes, Cash Access UK are also looking for a temporary location, to make sure Honiton is not without access to cash and banking services even for a short time. They are really flexible about the temporary location and how it provides services – the library was mentioned as a possibility.
So please don’t worry – our Banking Hub is already being worked on, and will be open for business somewhere in Honiton town centre before Lloyds closes.
